1) O capital é protegido no vencimento.
Resgate no vencimento:
1) O capital é protegido no vencimento.
Montante: EUR 1.000.000 Subjacente: EUR / USD.
Depósito Moeda: EUR Escala: 1.2000 a 1.2300.
Maturidade: 180 dias (N) Frequência de observação: diariamente.
Taxa máxima potencial: 4,85% p. a. (T) Número de dias de acumulação: 168 (n)
Cálculo do Cupom: (T x n / N) p. a.
Cupão efetivo no final do período: 4.5266% p. a.
Redenção no vencimento.
1) O capital é protegido no vencimento.
4) Pagamento simples.
1) & ldquo; All or nothing & rdquo; pagamento.
Possíveis permutações do produto:
a) Se, no prazo de validade do produto, a taxa spot corresponder à condição subjacente à estratégia, o investidor ganha o cupom potencial no vencimento.
A nota digital.
a) Se a taxa pontual preenche a condição subjacente durante toda a vida do produto, o investidor ganha o cupom potencial.
Hedging Product 2: FX Accumulator Forward.
Durante a vida útil do produto:
Acumulador Forward EUR Put / USD Call.
Montante: EUR 1,000,000 Cupão mínimo: 0,05% p. a.
Depósito Moeda: EUR Subjacente: EUR / USD.
Maturidade: 365 dias (N) Greve: 1.2850.
Tipo de estratégia: Vender EUR / Comprar USD Knock-Out: 1.1500.
Frequência de observação: taxa diária de taxa diária: 1.2300.
Número de dias de acumulação: 260 (n)
Cálculo do valor convertido em USD: [Valor em EUR x strike] x n / N.
Reembolso em USD até o vencimento: USD 915.342.
Cálculo do montante em EUR: Montante em EUR x [(N-n) / N + 0,05% p. a].
Resgate em EUR no vencimento: EUR 287.815.
Outras possíveis variações desta estrutura podem assumir as seguintes formas:
1) Acumulador Forward Double Knock-Out.
Nocional: USD 2.400.000 Subjacente: EUR Chamada / USD Put.
Nocional diário: barreira knock-out USD 10 000: 1,5000.
Maturidade: 1 ano, 360 dias (N) Greve: 1.3492.
Neste exemplo, existem 3 intervalos a serem considerados. Faixa 1: Barreira acima de knock-out (1.5000), Faixa 2: Entre a barreira knock-out (1.5000) e strike (1.3492) e Range 3: Abaixo da greve (1.3492).
Neste exemplo, a alavancagem é 2 vezes.
3) Barreira knock-out.
6b Etapas no preço do acumulador FX.
2. Modelo analítico do acumulador FX.
3. Monte Carlo Simulation for FX Accumulator.
Next a Monte Carlo model was built with the same knock-out barrier level, strike price, spot price, volatility, interest rates and time frames as the second model. A series of simulations ranging from 1,000 to 1,000,000 were executed to provide a more accurate basis for comparison. The results generated by the Monte Carlo model were compared to those obtained from the Analytical model. Within a certain margin of error, the prices seem to converge.
4. Zero-Cost Structure Calibration.
With some level of comfort, I went on to calibrate the barrier levels and strike prices of the FX accumulator to achieve zero-cost structures for the various combinations of strikes, barrier level and volatility.
tep1: Building of Equity Accumulator.
An analytical model for pricing the Equity Accumulator, described in the by Lam, Yu and Ling[2], was built based on the following assumptions and closed form formulas.
1) Volatility, σ is constant.
2) Risk-free interest rate, r is constant.
3) Payout rate, q is constant.
Discrete Barrier Adjustment.
Approximation of discretely monitored barrier option values using continuous formula with an appropriately shifted barrier, based on Broadie, Glasserman and Kou (1997)
The results generated by the replication model closely resembles the results published in Table III in the paper.
Step2: Building of FX Accumulator.
The parameters used in this model are as follows:
Underlying: EUR Call/USD Put.
Daily Notional: USD 1 Knock-out Barrier: 1.5000.
Maturity: 1 year, 365(N) Strike: 1.3492.
Fixing: Daily Outright Forward: 1.3895.
Number of observations: 240 business days (n)
Frequency of settlement: Monthly (Delayed Settlement)
Monitoring of Barrier: Discrete.
1) Volatility, σ is constant at 20%.
2) Risk-free interest rate of domestic currency (USD), Rd is constant at 0.25%.
3) Risk-free interest rate of foreign currency (EUR), Rf is constant at 1%.
Barrier = 1.5000, Spot = 1.4000,Time-to-maturity = 1 year,
Domestic Risk-free Rate = 0.25%, Foreign Risk-free rate = 1.00%.
From the results generated by the analytical model, we can see a clear segregation of positive (green) and negative (red) prices. The positive values suggest that the strike prices favour the investors while the negative values benefits the issuers.
Step3: Monte Carlo Simulation of FX Accumulator.
The Monte Carlo simulation was built on the following geometric Brownian motion equation:
St is the spot exchange rate,
Rd is the continuous domestic interest rate,
Rf is the continuous foreign interest rate,
σ is the constant volatility,
Wt is a standard Brownian motion.
Applying Ito's rule to InSt results in the following equation for the process St:
which demonstrates that St follows a lognormal distribution.
2) Frictionless trading and no transaction costs.
3) No liquidity constraints, i. e. any position can be taken at any time, short, long, arbitrary fraction.
This is a standard model widely adopted in practice to communicate prices in currency options. The objective here is to provide a simplified sanity check on the analytical model. Hence this simplistic model should act only as a prototype to a more advanced model.
Barrier = 1.5000, Spot = 1.4000, Strike = 1.3492, Volatility = 20%,
Domestic Risk-free rate =0.25%, Foreign Risk-free rate = 1% and.
Notional = USD 480,000.
Using the parameters stated, the above simulation results demonstrated convergence towards the analytical model with some margin of error. However, when the volatility is changed drastically, the results were less consistent. This shows that this analytical model is not sufficiently robust on its own. It serves only as a reference price.
Step4: Calibrate parameters to achieve Zero-cost structure.
In spite of its deficiencies, the analytical model is still useful for obtaining a reference price quickly. As such, the model can be permutated to obtain a zero price for different combinations of volatilities, strike prices and barrier levels.
From the above table, a zero cost structure for an accumulator with volatility of 10%, the selected strike price has be approximately 1.3384, between 1.3290 and 1.3391.
Step5: Approaches to improve pricing mechanism.
The above analytical model is clearly insufficient for pricing the FX accumulator. Its primary function, at best, is to provide a theoretical price based on Black-Scholes assumptions. Even the Monte Carlo simulation used above is inadequate due to its flawed assumption of constant volatility.
In practice, the trader uses the analytical model to generate a reference price, known as the Theoretical Value. In addition, he will determine the Overhedge, the cost of risk-managing the volatility risk of exotic options using vanilla options. The tradable price is the sum of the Theoretical Value and the Overhedge.
The analytical solution is a Black-Scholes model that assumes volatility and interest rates are constant, and that the only source of risk is the underlying exchange rate or spot. These are clearly unrealistic assumptions as volatility and interest rates also move in relation to the spot and time to maturity. A delta-neutral position can easily be achieved by trading spot. But managing rho (price sensitivity due to interest rates) and vega (price sensitivity due to volatility) for barrier options are more challenging. Assuming interest risk can be neglected relative to volatility risk for short-dated FX options. The trader still needs to hedge the vega exposure. The vega exposure is decomposed into the sensitivity parameters vanna (change of vega due to spot movement) and Volga (change of vega due to change in volatility). The cost of vega and volga are computed relative to the market values of risk reversals and butterflies.
This pricing approach is commonly known as the Traders' Rule of Thumb or Vanna-Volga Pricing.
Stochastic Volatility Models.
Besides the traders' approach, stochastic volatility models such as the Heston (1993) and SABR models can also be adapted to construct a more robust model capable of incorporating stochastic volatility and the smile. Both models are widely used in practice.
The Heston model is a mean-reverting model that allows for a stochastic instantaneous volatility. It is commonly used for pricing exotic options. This model is capable of capturing real-world smiles for a single expiry, but will not be able to fit an entire volatility surface with market observable shapes.
The SABR runs on a constant elasticity of variance (CEV) process. It has been used mainly in the interest rate derivatives market to model swaptions, caps and floor smiles. But lately, the market has been using SABR models for FX volatility smiles construction because of its strength in capturing the correct dynamics of the smiles.
6c Considerations in Hedging the FX Accumulator.
As highlighted above, the FX Accumulator is made up of a basket of barrier options with different expiry dates. As such, hedging the product requires hedging a basket of barrier options. The perfect hedge is achieved through perfect replication, i. e. the payoff of the barrier option and the hedge matches exactly for all outcomes. However, replication of the barrier option payoff is often impossible due to market imperfections.
To hedge a barrier option position requires market liquidity, optimal position sizing in the hedge portfolio, minimizing number of positions in hedge portfolio within acceptable hedging error level and minimizing realization risks for static hedging.
The two classic hedging approaches for barrier options are dynamic or delta hedging, which requires frequent rebalancing of the underlying, and static hedging, which requires setting up an initial portfolio of vanilla options that will not require any further adjustment.
Dynamic hedging is executed by continuously ensuring that the delta, the first order sensitivity of the option to the underlying price, is neutral. For example, for each short up-and-out call option (issuer is short one up-and-out option when client is long one up-and-out option), the issuer receives the option premium and set up a portfolio by buying delta EUR and places the remaining premium in a bank account. Over time, the issuer will adjust the hedge portfolio continuously in order to maintain delta-neutrality. The delta of barrier options is highly sensitive to the price of the underlying, especially around the barrier level, hence the hedge needs to be frequently rebalanced. This results in huge transaction costs and operational difficulties when managing large barrier option positions.
Static hedging is carried out by constructing a portfolio of vanilla options with varying strikes, maturities and fixed weights at inception. No adjustments are required throughout the life of the product. The two well-known static hedging approaches were the Calendar-spread method, invented by Derman et al. [2] , and the Strike-spread hedging method, created by Carr and Chou [1]. The Calendar-spread method hedges the payoff of the barrier options using vanilla options with varying maturities. The Strike-spread approach hinges on the idea of converting the problem of replicating a barrier option to a problem of replicating a European security with a non-linear payoff function, known as the adjusted payoff function. The adjusted payoff is hedge by constructing a portfolio of finite number of vanilla options with different strikes. In general the hedge quality of static strategies worsen over time.
Many attempts to circumvent the limitation of the above classical approaches were proposed in academic literature by Taleb N.(1996), Nalholm and Poulsen (2006), Maruhn and Sachs (2005) and numerous other researchers. However, none of them can achieve the perfect hedge for barrier options. Hence the choice of hedging approach for an FX Accumulator is subject to the issuer's skill and competence.
7. Conclusion.
This paper attempted to explain the continued popularity of FX structured products among private banking clients when all other classes of structured products have fallen out of favour as a result of the credit crisis. This clearly shows that derivatives and structured products are not destined for extinction as long as they can innovate to serve the real and changing needs of investors.
The FX accumulator was singled out to demonstrate this point. Despite the downfall of its close cousin, the Equity Accumulator, it continued to thrive. This shows that the same type of structure works well for one asset class but not the others. Financial Engineers should be careful not to blindly encapsulate the same structure across every asset class without first understanding the peculiarities of each of the underlings.
In the final sections of this paper, an attempt was made to design, price and hedge an FX accumulator from an issuer's perspective. The process is built on multiple assumptions and limitations. This highlights the importance of having good validation and control processes in place to reduce market and model risks for the issuers. Without which, the issuers would be subjected to disproportional amount of risks for the price they are charging for a product.

FX Accumulators (the HK press calls it FX I-kill-you-later)
News from Wall Street Journal on Dec 4, 2008: Shares in Citic Pacific fell sharply after the company disclosed larger losses than previously estimated from its foreign-exchange contracts due to the weakness of the Australian dollar. Citic Pacific Ltd shares have fallen 62% since Oct 20, when Citic Pacific disclosed that it faced losses of more than HK$15 billion on leveraged positions on the Australian dollar. Citic Pacific made bets on the Australian dollar that went bad when the U. S. dollar unexpectedly rallied. The positions were taken through an arrangement that gave Citic Pacific limited upside, but unlimited downside.
Below is an explanation of how FX accumulators work:
In the example above, the client can buy AUD/USD at a lower price of 0.5780 every day for 6 months as long as the Knock-out level of 0.6750 is not reached anytime. With the current spot rate at 0.6480, the client is instantly in-the-money by 700bps. Should the Knock-out level be reached prior to the end of the contract (in this case, 6 months), the client will cease to accumulate AUD and sell USD at the lower agreed rate of 0.5780.
The risk to the client will be when the spot rate moves below the strike price of 0.5780. For instance, should AUD/USD moves to 0.5000, the client is still contracted to buy a fixed amount of AUD everyday at 0.5780.
For Citic Pacific Ltd, it was rumored that they were in a contract to accumulate AUD/USD at levels above 0.9000 and thus with the spot rate at 0.6480 now, it represents a loss of approxmately 30% on the notional amount to them. Personally, I never liked FX accumulators as if you are right in the direction of the currency pair, it will be knocked-out soon anyway and if you are wrong on the direction, you face potentially huge losses. FX accumulators will work best in a range-bound environment.
Several times, clients will use leverage to get a better strike price. However, the risk to this is that if the spot rate falls below the strike price in the AUD/USD example, the client will be contracted to accumulate double the fixed amount of AUD at the strike price every fixing.
FX Accumulator Options.
I'll be interning this summer, and recently they've come back to me saying I will be doing something related to this. naturally, I went to check it up, but it seems to me that there's very little about FX accumulator options on the net. Is it a very specialized product? Can someone explain this to me? thanks to everyone in advance!

Accumulator options overview.
An accumulator option is a regular forward contract where the notional of the forward is determined over the life of the option up to the expiry date rather than by a predefined value.
At expiration the exact notional depends on all of the following combined:
Predefined spot condition.
This can be set as a range, where the spot must be inside or outside the range, or as a one-sided condition, where the spot is above or below a predetermined trigger.
Number of fixings on which the predefined spot condition is met.
Total number of fixings.
Type of accumulator you choose:
Accumulator inaEU"each time the spot condition is met on a fixing date, a proportion of the notional is paid (the final notional increases).
Accumulator outaEU"each time the spot condition is met on a fixing date, a proportion of the notional is deducted from the maximum that can be used (the predefined notional decreases).
If the option is an:
Accumulator in, on expiry date the notional is:
n/N x aEU1notional amountaEUo.
Accumulator out, on expiry date the notional is:
aEU1notional amountaEUo - (n/N x aEU1notional amountaEUo)
aEU1notional amountaEUo is the maximum notional amount set in the fader option.
n is how many times the spot satisfies the predefined condition on the predefined fixing dates.
N is how many fixings dates there are over the life of the option (N).
An accumulator option is decomposed into buying (selling) a fader call and selling (buying) a fader put. However, bear in mind that with an accumulator you are obliged to exchange currencies, whereas with a fader you have the right not the obligation.
Why buy an accumulator?
An accumulator is a popular structured product for corporates looking for a forward style hedge.
You would buy an accumulator if both of the following are true:
You have a very specific view of the spot rate movement.
You are looking to achieve a better forward rate than the prevailing forward rate in the market at the time of trading . You achieve a better rate because you are taking a risk not knowing the notional in advance.

FX accumulators back in HK.
HONG KONG - Foreign exchange accumulators are seeing a revival in Hong Kong, despite hefty losses linked to the products last year, as low volatility improves risk appetite among investors.
Accumulators are zero-cost options-based forwards offering buyers a more favourable rate than the vanilla forwards market - as the notional accumulates periodically over the life of the contract provided spot stays within pre-determined levels on specific dates. The products were at the.

Fx options accumulators
Equity Structured Products Accumulator/ Decumulator.
What is Accumulator (Decumulator)?
It is a series of forward contract for clients to buy (sell*) the reference share at a pre-determined price in each Exchange Business Day during the life of contract.
Pre-determined purchase (selling*) price (i. e. strike price) is usually at discount (premium*) to the initial fixing price for accumulator (decumulator*).
Knock Out feature (at day close) which may lead to termination of contract prior to maturity date.
Leverage / Gearing feature is that if closing price of reference share is below (above*) the strike price, client has to buy (sell under decumulator*) more number of shares than in normal days which equals to the number of times of leverage.
Guaranteed number of shares feature is that if the Knock Out event triggers within the guaranteed period, guaranteed number of shares (number of shares bought / sold* in normal days x no of days in the guaranteed period) will be delivered to client at strike price (settlement at Knock Out Date + 1 settlement cycle)
Stamp Duty and Levy paid by client if there is share settlement.
& middot; Purchase (sold*) the reference share at a discount (premium*) price compared to the Initial Spot Fixing.
& middot; Liquidity Risk – no active secondary market, high exit costs and losses.
& middot; Investment Risk – investors have to take up (sell*) the agreed amount of the underlying asset at the strike price even when the market price falls below the strike price resulting in potential significant loss.
& middot; Credit Risk – client takes the credit risk of the issuer.
& middot; Leverage Risk (if applies) – the potential loss could be magnified.
& middot; Knock Out Risk – investors potential profit is capped by such feature which means the risk of terminating the contract at a date earlier than maturity date.
& middot; Mark-to-Market Risk – for margin based investors, they need to be prepared for paying interest cost for margin / credit facility and meeting margin calls, the margin calls may be given at short notice. When investors fail to meet margin calls, the contracts may be closed out without the investors’ consent and the investors have to bear the consequential losses and costs. This is also a risk of the accumulator / decumulator of which the underlying shares moving in an unfavorable direction resulting in loss.
& middot; Settlement Risk – the risk that the counterparty failed to deliver as per agreement.
& middot; Before the settlement of shares, investor cannot enjoy the shareholder right and benefit by holding an accumulator.
* for the case of decumulator.
Sample Terms of Accumulator.
& middot; Reference Share Price / Spot Price.
& middot; (Purchase) Strike Price: usually expressed as percentage of share price.
& middot; Knock Out Price: usually expressed as percentage of share price (Observation starts from Trade Date, i. e. T+0, Accrual starts from T+1 Business Day)
& middot; Guaranteed Period which means the number of shares that the investor must receive (for accumulator) / deliver (for decumulator) even knock out event happened during the guaranteed period.
& middot; Number of shares per day.
& middot; Notional Amount = No. of shares per day x No. of Exchange Business Days x Reference Share price.
Example 1 Non Leverage Accumulator.
Investor asked for a 1 year, standard accumulator on ABC Co Ltd, no leverage, 1 month guaranteed, 103% KO price, monthly settlement, no. of shares per day = 3,000 shares, number of Exchange Business Days = 250.
Reference Share price.
$5.25 x 88.7% = $4.6568.
(up to 4 decimal places only)
Maximum Number of Shares Purchased within the contract life.
3,000 x 250 = 750,000 shares.
750,000 x $5.25 = $3,937,500.
Maximum Settlement Amount in the Worst Case (i. e. no Knock Out event triggered)
750,000 x $4.6568 = $3,429,600.
Example 2 Leverage Accumulator.
Client asked for a 1 year, leverage (2x) accumulator on XYZ Co Ltd, 1 month guaranteed, 103% KO Price and monthly settlement, no. of shares per day = 3,000 shares, number of Exchange Business Days = 250.
Reference Share price.
$5.25 x 84.2% = $4.4205.
(up to 4 decimal places only)
Maximum Number of Shares Purchased within the contract life.
3000 x 250 x 2 = 1,500,000 shares.
750,000 x $5.25 = $3,937,500.
Maximum Settlement Amount in the Worst Case (i. e. no Knock Out event triggered)
1,500,000 x $4.4205 = $6,630,750.
Example 3 Leverage Decumulator.
Client asked for a 1 year, leverage (2x) decumulator on WWW Co Ltd, 1 month guaranteed, 97% KO Price and bi-weekly settlement, no. of shares per day = 3,000 shares, number of Exchange Business Days = 248.
Reference Share price.
$22.00 x 116.88% = $25.7136.
(up to 4 decimal places only)
Maximum Number of Shares Sold within the contract life.
3000 x 248 x 2 = 1,488,000 shares.
744,000 x $22.00 = $16,368,000.
Maximum Settlement Amount in the Worst Case (i. e. no Knock Out event triggered)
1,488,000 x $25.7136 = $38,261,836.80.
Assume 1 month has 20 trading days, guaranteed number of shares to sell.
Worst Case Scenario.
For accumulator, the worst case is when the reference share price falls to zero throughout the entire life of tenor . In this case, investor purchases the maximum number of shares until the end of accumulator tenor. If the investor realizes his profit / loss by selling the number of shares in the market where the stock price falls to zero, the maximum loss = (strike price – 0) x maximum number of shares per day x number of days.
For decumulator, the worst case is when the reference share rises above the strike price throughout the entire life of tenor . The downside risk is theoretically unlimited.
& middot; Product Risk is very high (regardless of the tenor)
& middot; Product Complexity is complex.
& middot; Private Placement (Over-The-Counter)
& middot; Professional Investor ONLY.
Further Illustration - Example 1.
Investor entered an accumulator contract to buy Hello Co Limited in coming 1 year. The indicative strike price and knock out price is 90% and 103% respectively for 1 year contract without guaranteed number of shares and leverage.
Terms of Accumulator (Normal, No Guaranteed) are:
1 year (assuming 250 days)
First Accumulation Date.
Last Accumulation Date.
90% of Initial Spot (i. e. 90% x $4.00 = $3.60)
103% of Initial Spot (i. e. 103% x $4.00 = $4.12)
Reference Share Price.
Number of Shares.
5000 x 250 x $4.00 = $5,000,000.
Max Settlement Amount.
5000 x 250 x $3.60 = $4,500,000 (Worst Case)
If Hello Co Ltd closed above the Knock Out level (i. e. $4.12) on Trade Date.
Number of Shares accumulated = 0.
If Hello Co Ltd closed above the Knock Out level in T+10 days (the date which the accumulator knocked out does not count for accumulation)
Number of Shares accumulated = 9 x 5,000 = 45,000 shares.
On KO+2 days debit investor account = 45,000 x $3.6 = $162,000.
credit investor account 45,000 shares of Hello Co Ltd.
If Hello Co Ltd closed above the Knock Out level in T+25 days (8 Sep 2018)
On 7 Sep 2018, investor received the full 1 st period of shares = 22 x 5000 = 110,000 shares, assuming the first settlement period has 22 trading days.
On 10 Sep 2018, investor received the 2 nd period of shares = 2 x 5000 = 10,000 shares.
Further Illustration – Example 2.
Investor entered an accumulator contract to buy Hello Co Ltd in coming 1 year. The indicative strike price and knock out price is 85% and 103% respectively for 1 year contract with guaranteed number of shares (the first period/ 22 days, assuming the guarantee period starts from T+1 to T+22, monthly basis) and leverage (2x).
Terms of accumulator (Leverage, Guaranteed) are:
1 year (assuming 250 days)
First Accumulation Date.
Last Accumulation Date.
85% of Initial Spot (i. e. 85% x $4.00 = $3.40)
103% of Initial Spot (i. e. 103% x $4.00 = $4.12)
Reference Share Price.
Number of Shares.
5000 x 250 x $4.00 = $5,000,000.
Max Settlement Amount.
5000 x 250 x $3.40 x 2 = $8,500,000 (Worst Case)
If Hello Co Ltd closed above the Knock Out level (i. e. $4.12) on Trade Date.
Number of Shares accumulated = 0.
If Hello Co Ltd closed above the Knock Out level (i. e. $4.12) in the Trade Date + 1.
Number of Shares accumulated = 22 x 5,000 = 110,000 shares.
On KO+2 days debit investor account = 110,000 x $3.4 = $374,000.
credit investor account 110,000 shares of Hello Co Ltd.
If Hello Co Ltd closed above the strike from T+1 to T+5, below the strike from T+6 to T+9 and it closed above Knock Out level on T+10 date,
Number of Shares accumulated = 18 x 5,000 + 4 x 2 x 5,000 = 130,000 shares.

Investor should aware of the tenor of this product, the longer the tenor, the higher the exit costs for the early termination of contract.
6. Corporate Actions/Extraordinary Events.
Other risks may impact on the value of this product, for example corporate actions or extraordinary events in relation to the underlying stock may occur which have a dilutive effect on the value of the underlying. In certain circumstances Issuer / Counterparty has discretion as to the adjustments that it makes, if any, following corporate events.
Risk of Investment and Investment Suitability.
1. Investment involves risk. The price of a Derivative Product may fluctuate, sometimes dramatically; it may move up or down and may even become valueless. It is likely that loss may be incurred rather than profit made as a result of buying and/or selling a particular Derivative Product. Past performance figures are not indicative of future performance. The Investor should carefully read the term sheets (for Derivative Products) and other relevant documents for details before making any investment decisions, and thereafter, should regularly check for update of information relating to the Derivative Products.
2. Derivative Products are complex and involve different types of risks. The risk of loss resulting from investments in such Derivative Products can be substantial with a total loss of capital value. The Investor should: (a) study and understand the structure of the Derivative Products before placing any orders; and (b) have prior experience with investment in the Derivative Products and fully understand the associated risks before making a decision to invest in such products and ensure that the products are suitable in light of his financial position and investment objectives.
Specific Risk of Investing in Derivative Products.
1. Derivative Products often involve a high degree of gearing, so that a relatively small movement in the price of the underly-
ing securities results in a disproportionately large movement in the price. The values of Derivative Products are not fixed,
but fluctuate with the market, which may be influenced by many factors, including changes in the economic and/or political.
meio Ambiente. The prices of Derivative Products can therefore be volatile.
2. a) Investors should not buy a Derivative Product unless it is prepared to sustain a total loss of the investment plus any.
commission or other transaction charges.
b) While Derivative Products are unexercised and if their underlying securities are suspended from trading on the relevant stock exchanges, they may be suspended from trading for a similar period of time as their underlying securities.
c) Depending on the structure of a particular Derivative Product, an investor may be obligated to accept delivery or make delivery (as the case may be) of the underlying securities if the conversion price is triggered or pursuant to the terms and conditions of the relevant agreement, contract or confirmation of the subject Transaction. Depending on the market conditions, an investor may be obligated to accept delivery of the underlying securities at a price which is above the market price such securities or to make delivery of the underlying securities at a price which is below the market price of such securities and losses may occur resulting from such actions which can be substantial. The loss resulting from investing in such Derivative Products can be over and above the initial amounts invested to a substantial extent.
d) If there is an extraordinary event or an adjustment event such a stock split, issue of bonus shares or other unexpected event that changes the number, value or weighting of issued shares of the underlying stock, the counter-party/calculation agent may adjust the contract terms, at its sole discretion, to reflect the new market conditions. This may include unwinding the contract. The investor should seek independent advice from professional parties in the event of such extraordinary events or adjustments.
e) Early termination prior to maturity is possible subject to the terms and conditions governing the Derivative Product and prevailing market terms and conditions.
f) The value of the Derivative Products may be reduced due to any downgrades by rating agencies such as Moody’s Investors Inc. or Standard & Poor’s Rating Services.
g) Structured products are formed by combining two or more financial instruments and may include one or more Derivative Products. Structured products may carry a high degree of risk and may not be suitable for many members of the public, as the risks associated with the financial instruments or Derivative Products may be interconnected. As such, the extent of loss due to market movements can be substantial. Prior to engaging in structured product Transactions, the Investor should understand the inherent risks involved. In particular, the various risks associated with each financial instrument or Derivative Product should be evaluated separately as well as taking the structured product as a whole. Each structured product has its own risk profile and given the unlimited number of possible combinations, it is not possible to detail in this RDS all the risks which may arise in any particular case. The Investor should note that with structured products, buyers can only assert their rights against the issuer. Hence, particular attention needs to be paid to issuer risk. The Investor should therefore be aware that a total loss of his investment is possible if the issuer should default.
h) The prices of the underlying securities of Derivative Products fluctuate, sometimes dramatically. The price of a security may move up or down, and may become valueless. Accordingly, it is as likely that loss will be incurred rather than profit made as a result of buying or selling Derivative Products. In particular, for some Derivative Products such as accumulators, depending on market conditions, an investor may be obligated to accept delivery of the underlying securities at a price which is above the market price of such securities and loss may occur resulting from such action which can be substantial. Similarly, for some Derivative Products such as decumulators, an investor may be obligated to make delivery of the underlying securities at a price which is below the market price of such securities and loss may occur resulting from such action which can be substantial. The loss resulting from investing in such Derivative Products can be over and above the initial amounts invested to a substantial extent.
